Ingredients
500g pork and beef mince
1 French stick (340g)
200g Danish-style fetta
700g authentic Italian passata
1 bunch fresh basil
Salt and pepper, to taste
Olive oil
Method
Cut a quarter of the French stick and break it into small pieces. Place in a bowl, pour over half a cup of water and soak for a few minutes.
Mash the bread, then add feta, mince, salt and pepper. Mix well.
Pour passata and half a bottle of water into an ovenproof pan.
Rip in basil leaves, add salt, pepper and a drizzle of olive oil.
Roll the mince mixture into meatballs and place them into the sauce.
Pop the lid on and cook on medium heat for 30 minutes.
Slice the remaining breadstick, add olive oil, sprinkle with salt and bake at 200°C until golden.
Serve with crispy bread and plenty of the sauce.

Steph De Sousa
Steph De Sousa cooks as The Frugal Foodie, building recipes around what's already in the pantry and the produce nobody wants to throw out. Her style is straightforward and budget-aware without being austere: roast vegetable peelings, second-day rice, a freezer worked properly. She brings practical home rhythms to Savour and Wander.
